This continuing education activity has been provided by the West Virginia Local Performance Site of the PA/MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center for 13 contact hours. The West Virginia Local Performance Site is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the State of West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses. WVBRN provider registration number WV2000-0303RN.18. This activity is also for Licensed Practical Nurses for 13 contact hours.

Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling
Purpose: This two day workshop has been designed to improve the ability of providers in a variety of settings to support individuals in making behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. It is based on a CDC developed curriculum.
Objectives: Upon the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
•           Define client centered HIV prevention counseling
•           Describe factors that affect a client’s behavior
•           Demonstrate through practice sessions all the steps of HIV prevention counseling
The Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling and Testing workshop is required for all medical professionals who submit HIV specimens to the WV State Lab. The state lab keeps all approved testers names on file. After three years a one day Fundamentals of HIV Prevention Counseling update training refresher course is required.
Please pre-register as soon as possible.

Class size is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. This training session is dependent upon the number of pre-registrations.
